I wish this was

This sticker is on the front doors of St Peter and Paul Church in the Faubourg Marigny.

Pray with us.

We have a dream...

We plan to launch a 2d community in the Faubourg Marigny in the summer of 2012. We actually want to go this summer - but we want to do this well, and there are a host of new peeps to assimilate, some weddings, some huge trips and the big hurdle - $$$.

This church was first opened in 1848 and probably took several years to build. It closed in 2001, after 162 years. Now there is not one open church for a long distance!

We have been praying about this for two years. It has the main church, an activities building (aka a great gym!), a rectory and a second building, a huge parking lot and is totally enclosed behind fences.

The "church hall" activities building

The dream....
- Get the Archdiocese to give it to us, or give us a long term lease for a $1 a year!
- Get the old building demolished, saving the front facade.
- Build an entrance building, with covered play area behind, two modular pre-fab buildings for a pre-school, and with drop-off for walk up and drive through as there are gates for just such in the parking area.
- Turn the activities building into just that... gym for basketball and volleyball, community meetings, dance hall, etc.
- Turn the rectory building into a house for three families, and our study.
- Turn the church into a multi-faceted building that includes a santuary, but not yo' daddy's church... envision with us a working art gallery and studio for locals, with martini lounge seating in the center, café with food, coffee, wine and nice beers that stays open late, can be used for art shows, and on Sunday evenings, a meeting place for a Christian Collective (aka a church - as a body of saints following Christ, but a name not loaded in a post-Christian culture like the F.M.).

Pray with us!

The Rectory
Okay, I admit it: I wan the upstairs street side bedroom.

Shameless Greed and our Terminal Cancer

I'm watching the war in congress - or should I say the ongoing war. It is shameless the greed mongering the prostituting the GOP congressmen are doing on behalf of 1% of the population without serious consideration of the 99%. Whether you are GOP, DNC, independent, socialist, monarchist, or whatever... this is about our future and our children's future!

23.5% of all wealth is garnered by the top 1% of the nation's population... SO, 3 million make 23.5% of the income in the USA. They make more than the bottom 50%... stop and think about that: 1% (3M) makes more than 50% (150M). They 150M are dismissed as lazy, not working and should have studied harder... Making it worse - the top This ignores that most, with the rarest of exceptions played over and over as the norm by the GOP, do climb up and achieve from nothing... but ALMOST ALL wealth is begotten from wealth, privilege and access, launching and preparation not possible for the majority of people. In simplest terms, the rich get richer and keep it - hence, they are rich. This 150M is not lazy... sure there are some scammers. We all know this. BUT I have neighbors without medical insurance, who are not getting care because they can't afford 1/3 of their pay check for insurance!

On the other hand, the President (as you know, member of the DNC) has whored himself to the GOP who is not yet in control in congress to not just extend tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, but has so lavishly courted the GOP and given them this extravagant inheritance tax break that baffles even the GOP itself! He did this to get the extended unemployment support for those unemployed due to the greed that caused this GLOBAL meltdown - BY AMERICAN WALL STREET... the top 1% who run the markets, by the way...

I'm floored because this arrangement by the President further deepens the national debt, without taking in ANY money to pay for it... SO the tax cuts cost money, the unemployment costs money. The GOP says we can't afford the unemployment, but they are silent on the lack of affordability of the tax cuts... Now on the verge of breaking the nation... 40¢ on every tax dollar simply services interest on our debt-which by the way, we are not paying any of the principle! In thirty years we've gone from creditor state to indebted state - the most debt in history and there is not will at all to deal with this debt, because we are spending so far beyond out means and there is not will to live within our means, much less live within our means and actually pay off this debt! Trickle down does not worked - never has. ONLY the ratio of how rich the rich are getting has increased!

The elimination of the inheritance tax will benefit (over $1Trillion over ten years) to 1/3 of 1%! ! ! We don't care if people do not have access to health care. We're not talking about illegals (a whole separate issue). We're not talking about that tiny % who don't want to work. We're talking about 1/3 of the nation without health care!

So, I am gobsmacked at the President for kissing up and giving in to this, and beyond irritated at the GOP for it's greed and prostitution to people who will not even miss the taxes, or see their lifestyles change at all... not one meal out, not one holiday, not a home purchase, not determine if their kid goes to an Ivy League School, or has to leave his/her private elite prep school, or they have to sell their house, or miss going to the doctor, or not go shop to entertain themselves from their boring meaningless shallow lives, not "not" buy the new boat... You see - they can - it comes down to heart condition.

I heard FOX NEWS reporting that 5% pay 50% of the taxes and how unfair it is. Yet those 5% enjoy their affluence on the backs of people who work for them, most at much lower wages, who wrestle to pay the bills, who wait on and serve them... The news anchor defiantly reporting "objectively" how unfair it is...Because it's "MINE"...

The bottom line is the condition of the heart. In the godless nation we live in, in our secular and pluralistic society, built on the bed rock of "me"... yea, I know, this is not what we've been taught in our schools... but it is... from the Greek philosophers to the Enlightenment, to the 60's revolution, to the postmodern "my own thing"... it's about me...hence the tea party. It's about "mine" and doing what I want with it. It's about freedom of the individual, which is more than freedom of conscience, but freedom of greed, freedom of hedonism, freedom from responsibility, morality, ethics, caring and denying the Biblical mandates, as well as denial of the fruit of the Spirit.

How will the GOP fund the tax breaks, the elimination of the inheritance tax? Decrease medicare for elders, money for education, decrease in social security and make the working people work longer in life.

We keep Exxon Mobile the profitable company in history - and they pay -$0- in taxes! Where is Paul Revere when we need him!?

Side Note:
I'm recording a new rewrite of a song... sign up for the CD: It's to the tune of "I'm in the Lord's Army"....

Chorus:
I'm in the Tea Party!
I'm in the Tea Party!
I don't care what you need, cause it's all about me!

It's all mine and I worked for it,
Studied hard at my privileged school,
Had my mom reading to me.
And it's all about me!

Chorus

My dad got me my new position, introduced me to the CEO.
My mom helped me make my investments,
They bought me my new home, and my import car,
And now, I'm in the tea party!

Chorus

I don't care if you work two jobs
Can't afford health insurance,
Fear not making your mortgage
I don't care if you serve me,
Cause, I'm in the Tea Party.

Chorus x2

Stay tuned for more lovely tunes of delusion! Now, back to our program...

This mindset ignores the concept of vocation, as in station, calling, sent by God. It ignores community, mutual dependence, or caring for each other. It ignores that other people matter... and places their value if they are like me (rich), like me (not in need), like me (producing more - as in money). So the person who gives themselves away serving (be it teachers, police, nurses, firemen, postal workers, UPS driver, telephone operator, etc) is a hired hand doing their menial task who should be glad I acknowledge their presence.

This is a sad day because so many people who call themselves Christians never stop and evaluate if the issues at hand are right-wrong, Godly, Biblical or reflect the character of Christ. I seem to recall a call to give it all away to the poor and follow Him, and that is harder than passing through the eye of a needle.... There is no fruit of the spirit, or gratefulness for the blessings they are garnering... The ratio of wealth of this top 1% has tripled since the 1970's! Trickle down does not work! The middle class is collapsing - paying 1/3 of their income on health care ALONE! The top 1% earns 12¢ of every dollar earned in the nation! Over 80% of all new income went to the top 1%? The CEO's of banks and Wall Street - after being bailed out by the middle class tax payer, now earn more than they did before! AND THE GOP IS SUPPORTING IT!

Where is the character of Christ in how we steward our money? The last part of the soul to be converted is the wallet! One cannot quell the stewardship with trite minute sharing out of a tiny portion of excess and tell God God one has done their part. We are ignoring Isaiah 58 and Philippians 2.5-12.

In 1775 we began a revolution over MUCH smaller issues than what we face today - we're held captive by the corporate monsters who are 51 of the largest economies in the world! The income and wealth of corporate maneuvering is moral-less and without ethic. We are breaking our nation, BUT we are teaching our children a lack of virtue, a lack of character, a lack of being like Jesus, reducing following Him to sin management and ignoring the sin of greed, the sin of "me", the sin of collective culpability to do things in our society to care for others. It is not optional... and we've eliminated it from our spiritual formation and our theology. Shame on us - the church.

The one exception, the one bright spot is the secular billionaires leading the charity drive to give away their fortunes, Gates and Buffet. Interesting... they don't want to give it to the federal government ...because they don't trust the government to manage it - not the workers who deliver the services - but the politicians in congress! I also see the bright spot in the many who are concerned about those in real need, the Kingdom and share so generously with others either in need or those who are working to build the Kingdom and not just "play church". I am recipient of support from many great people who trust what we're doing matters. Thanks to those kind friends.

UGH! I'm gonna be sick! What I do know without doubt: In the end... this greed will not stop. This trend of abuse of the people by the powerful will not stop. Our nation will collapse from lack of moral fortitude even when we know it IS going to destroy us. God will judge. He will start with His church.

No, you really - really - really NEED to watch this

Today I watched the news: The President is defending a deal made with the GOP to his own party, the DNC, for the continued unemployed benefits in a time when there is such economic trouble in exchange for accepting the continued tax deductions for EVERY tax payer, including those who make bazillions. Huuuuuuaaaaaaaggggggghhhhh (long sigh).

We need to help those suffering from work loss due to this economic mess - created by Wall Street, don't forget... and yet this continued tax deduction even for those so wealthy... who won't change one thing in how they live, will raise the national debt even more... now looking at $13T! So we spend more, take in less and the debt continues to go up. ...Priceless. Literally! ! !

But let's discuss this debt... growing since 1980... trickle down economics doesn't work and the author of it all recanted and admitted it doesn't work. I just watched the guy on Letterman last week! He actually said it! He said it has done what many have argued for years... the rich get richer, by hundreds of times and the poor stay, well poor, and for the first time, the middle class gets poorer. ...Priceless again! Literally, again!

But when did this insanity begin? Actually right after WWII when we had a massive economy going, & we didn't want to wind it back down to a more sustainable pace. In literal terms, we liked the affluence, and no one stopped to think about it's effects and costs!

President Eisenhower's Financial retail analyst, Victor Laboe stated,

"Our enormously productive economy... demands that we make consumption our way of life, that we convert the buying and use of good into rituals, that we seek our spiritual satisfaction, our ego satisfaction in consumption... we need things consumed, burned up, replaced and discarded at an ever accelerating rate."

you NEED TO WATCH THIS! ALL OF IT! DON'T TURN IT OFF... IN FACT, TAKE NOTES! CHECK OUT THE STATISTICS!

When Good is Called Evil and Evil is Called Good.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;

who put darkness for light, and light for darkness"

~ Isaiah 5:20

Wikileaks, led by the anarchist, Julian Assange, has just released an attack on all Master Card companies that refuse to do business with his pathological terror campaign, masquerading as journalism. So, up front, let's get this straight... Assange has stated his intentions in his manifestos already - clearly an anarchist, against any and all authority, which means no rules, which means any operation, cooperation of more than one person is wrong, as cooperation, operation and civility requires some mutual agreement to order of conduct, organization of efforts, etc - and therefore, chaos is the order of the day.

While I agree with his complaint that a lot of governments, including the western powers, have blood on their hands on some matters, I vehemently object and disagree most strongly against his wholesale condemnation, risking peoples' lives, damaging foreign affairs in tenuous relationships, causing economic upheaval - all to make his own little selfish case. Like so many Australians, he simply wasn't hugged enough as a child! "She'll be right, mate" didn't work this time... this boy is not right... Note he is wanted on rape charges...chaos and anarchy in practice.

His world view of chaos means he with the power wins. So, civility is reduced to feudal power of warlords who rule with autocratic power.

Note that he is doing this in the west and not in China where he's be imprisoned without trial, sent to a work camp to make our cheap Christmas lights for 18 hours a day and never heard of.

Note his power play to punish and attack anyone who disagrees with him. The companies who withdrew services from his organization is like a little kid getting mad when the other kids won't play with him because he picks on others. This is the adult version of Columbine.

Funny how the ultra radical liberals, just like the ultra radical conservatives go so far off that what they proclaim as good is actually evil and what they call evil is actually (can actually) be good.

What a little man, a little pathetic man with little pathetic followers. May NSA expose and bring them to justice for all. May those with legitimate exception to how governments and corporations function, of which I number, not feel powerless and driven to such insanity, but bond together and demand change.

By the way - as Kingdom people - it won't change. Never has, never will. It might ebb our direction, but change... yea, right! That's why we anticipate Messiah's return.

A Buy Nothing Christmas

So, we have this need to buy... we all (if you're reading this blog with any regularity) familiar with the schemes of consumerism, materialism, image maintenance, etc. We know that the proverbial "5th Avenue" tells us we're not content unless we buy, have, experience, wear and define ourselves within the image machine they've created. We actually feel worth less if we don't do, have and consume what they define for us.

We all know it is a scam, a shame, not God honoring, a value system straight from hell... but... we simply don't care... and we go buy to be again. Why? Simple really - we want to, we like it, in other words - "We're addicted." This isn't the normal addiction where the user lies saying "I can quit whenever I want...I just don't want to quit, right now. This deep seated lie reveals a lot about us: a war of two Kingdoms rage within us.

1. We define our value, worth, status, standing by not just what 5th Avenue tells us, what our other addicted friends tell us (boy, do addicts want company to validate their own addiction), but we like it and we don't care that we are whoring ourselves out to this cheap, unsustainable definition of life.
2. We are more worried about others than being free from the addiction.
3. We don't even consider much less understand how the freedom from addiction is a great freedom to not be under it's/their influence, control, power.

I've wrestled it for decades really. I/we are making progress - great progress. Yes, we buy some things more expensive than others (organic non-hormone induced meat, fresh fruits, etc, or a tool of quality that lasts over the one that will give way in no time), but we work to a) shop wisely, b) consider its origins, c) ensure it is for a true proper motive - not for others - but for our own hearts. If our motives are for others, truly, and not for ourselves, we might buy something more so.

BUT, what if it is cheaper to buy the rubbish 5th Avenue sells us? What if cheaper is more chic? One can possibly on a few opportunities (note italics) actually be cooler by buying cheaper... does this license a God worshipper to then buy into 5th Avenue's system? Or is it a rare opportunity to "be chic" and buy into a system, validate and support a system - even when it is a system counter to God, making it harder for the world to hear Him, making people more shallow, more trite, more empty, less fulfilled? Is it best then?

I mentioned considering its origins. We work to also consider how many miles this food travelled to get to us... for a couple of reasons. First, the fuel used to get food across a continent versus grown locally - just outside the city, or maybe IN the city are a major consideration. Locally produced and bought food puts income 100% in our local economy. Imported puts most of the income in the hands of massive corporate farms and small wages to local people. Beyond that, the local food is picked later - fresher and hence more packed with vitamins etc... Last - using so much resource to get it here is not healthy and (okay, one more last) investing into our own community builds social capital that cannot be priced.

What would it look like if we - God's people - were free of the influence, the power and control, the addiction they have imprisoned us with? Wow - more income (tight for all today) to a) spend on ourselves or b) even spend on those in real need? The emotional health of not feeling that constant never appeased "need" to buy, want, have, wear, be validated by others over what label I wear...

Where to start?
Christmas is great, but it's been redefined so much in my lifetime alone.... it's about celebrating the idea of celebrating the ideal of faceless intimacy and warm relationship, the merriment of celebrating aimless celebrating. It's about caring about family we don't invest in the rest of the year, the caring about people we don't care about the rest of the year and then, just enough religion (choose one...) to feel good about ourselves. Even the idea of Jesus' birth is sanitized as to why He came.

We're doing something odd to many. My family doesn't get it... we're having a "buy nothing" Christmas. We're not giving gifts to each other, to our closest friends, or anyone. We're giving whatever we have away to those in need. It's not to get attention, but simply to bless. For some, that leaves a huge hole in them to even think about... no massive packages bought on credit one can't afford for that morning and the ripping paper... We have no want, no need - so why do this for no reason other than a market created need to get and give presents not asked for.

Consider what I've proposed above in my discussion - origins, what, why you buy what you buy and try to shift local and based on real need, not image motives behind the risk.

Here's my Christmas cheer for this year: 6% of the world's population consumes 46% of the world's production. Hmm.

Want to defend it? Here's your only argument.... "Mine."
