Our groping for oil and our "lifestyle"

"We can be a bit hypocritical in the US of A. We have $50k earners who bought $750k houses, then complained about Goldman Sachs; Walmart shoppers who buy 12 packs of tighty whiteys for $2.99 — then complains about job losses. Or the non voters (the majority of us) who complain about Congress. We energy consumers ought to realize that it is our demand that led to drilling in the GoM."

Oh, no, please no...

From New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico...

New reports today suggest that the minimum spill to date (52 days) is 40m barrels but more likely over 100m barrels; that's 5B, 500M gallons! ...and counting.

Please, Lord. No. Please Lord - end this mess.

FUTILITY!

For 50 days, we walked out in the evening, when the off shores breezes are drawn ashore to the smell of putrid oil. Yesterday, it took a turn for the worse... I walked out at 6.30AM... the smell was already there and stayed with us through the day. Today, the same. It's getting worse. The pictures are horrific. The reports calamitous.

So I get this comment on my blog post, dated 25 May, Egregious, from some one I don't know, saying "Careful! Cars are not the only thing God "recalls". Meaning? This woman threatened me that God would literally kill me, because I dared to be incensed by the oil industry's complete egregious behavior before and after this disaster.

WHY IN THE HELL DID NOT ONE DAMNED OIL COMPANY MAKE CONTINGENCY PLANS FOR SUCH AN UNLIKELY, BUT NOW OBVIOUSLY POSSIBLE NIGHTMARE!? Why was every engineer focused by the companies on profit and productivity and no one morally responsible enough to plan for these type disasters!





This "woman" dared threaten me because I find it simply unbelievable that they are so clueless when they have created such a disaster of which NONE of us YET has a clue how bad this is going to be! The implications:
1. Ecological nightmare beyond historic proportions! We yet don't know how bad this is going to be. We're now in hurricane season... imagine WHEN a storm grabs this mess and slings in ashore for MILES AND MILES! Imagine when a storm gets a hold of the underwater plumes of oil and sends it ashore! Imagine the bazillions of acres - miles lost to the sea and the threat it holds for tens of thousands of people as storm dangers are now increased ten-twenty fold!
2. Economic nightmare for tens of thousands of people who will be bankrupt because their oil related company is devastated as a result of this.
3. Imagine the tens of thousands of people who's aqua marine business is devastated.... seafood prices globally higher, and the ecological mess years to recover for fishing!

WHY? Because some narcissistic pathological business greedy people were focused on the quarterly earnings over responsibility... HOW SOCIOPATHIC! How's the quarterly report now?

BP is spending $50M on PR right now... yet people here can't get paid for the work they are doing, they have yet to request the two Scandinavian ships that do this skimming on a HUGE scale. They are dancing around responsibility - as late as yesterday - denying there are oil plumes, though universities have mapped plumes 3 & 6 miles across! They are saying our insurance won't pay for the oil either. Oh my God - when a hurricane slings this stuff inland and devastates the house, the poor home owner will not be able to get the insurance to pay for it because it's man-made disaster ...oil, and the oil company will say it was the storm... YEARS IN COURT and they have the powerful legal teams and the little guy has whom? May they all go to deep dark places of torment!

I HOPE, PRAY, BP goes bankrupt and loses it all! I pray powerful Florida sues the unbelievable hell of them! The "less desirable places don't have the clout of Florida... Maybe they'll break BP's neck!




We fought a painful revolution over MUCH SMALLER offenses than this. At what point do we say enough to the insanity of the society and the legislators who are more representatives for the mega-corporations than the people who sent them there? At what point is the constitution erroneous to the government that now rules?

In the mean time, other states with their generous people send mixed messages... some send their cut hair to help, while trivial in scale, it is a nice gesture. Yet, many scorn and think the government should not pay... Again, the state that feeds the nation with rice and sugar, that refines almost ALL of the oil and gas to make it usable, and produces 2nd only to Texas the amount of oil and gas consumed... is raped again. LA is still not properly compensated with royalties as the mega-corporations take our natural resources. Again, you tisk at LA while you drive to the mall with affordable fuel.

Imagine LA seceding... imagine LA turning off the oil and gas and turning off the refineries... imagine the cost of your fuel then; triple, quadrupled... Imagine.

All the while mega-corporations continue to rape the people and tell us to get ******.

SHAME ON YOU BP! MAY GOD HIMSELF JUDGE YOU!

Bill to allow guns in church shot down

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A Senate committee has shot down a bill that would have allowed concealed weapons to be carried inside churches.

The bill, which had passed the House in a 74-18 vote, found no support in a Senate judiciary committee Tuesday.

The measure by Rep. Henry Burns, R-Haughton, would have required the religious leader of a church, mosque or synagogue to sign off on any plan to allow weapons inside churches.

Burns told the committee that changing times mean that churches are not the safe places they used to be and so should be able to take steps to protect their parishoners.

The bill required churches choosing to allow concealed carry provisions to notify their congregations. Whomever would be carrying the weapons in the church would have had to take eight hours of tactical training each year.

In a day and age when the world has stopped listening to the words that come from the church, why on God's not-so-green earth would His people push such legislation? Is the priority Jesus or a trivial sub-culture defining our "rights" and our "sub-culture" or lack there-of?
